Based on the success of the Budapest Africa Forum (BAF) in 2013, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary held a second event on the 2nd and 3rd of November 2015. Besides highly ranked African officials, who graduated in Hungary, and African ministers of higher education, the Association of Diplomacy in Practice attended as an operative organizer. The aim was to strengthen our country’s commitment towards Africa along the line of the “Opening to the South” foreign policy strategy; therefore, the main connection was education.
The conference was held in the building of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó, gave a speech before handing the draft text of the Agreement on educational cooperation between the government of Hungary and the government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the Deputy-minister of International Relations and Regional Integration Franck Mwe di Malila Apenela. More speeches were held by State Secretary for Higher Education László Palkovics, Vice-president of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences Domonkos Szász, as well as the representatives of African alumni. The audience could also learn more about the Department for Science Diplomacy and see presentations about successful Hungarian entrepreneurs and business opportunities in Africa.
The closing event of BAF2 was a reception on the Europe Boat where music was provided by SenaDagadu.
The members of the association were involved in the organisation of protocol events and gained useful experience which we are really thankful for.
